The BJP, which is looking for a winning face in the assembly elections in Uttarakhand, has decided to change the leadership again within four months. Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has been asked to resign. As soon as Tirath Singh Rawat reached Dehradun from Delhi on Friday, news came out that the Chief Minister had offered to resign in the absence of a by-election. However, on Wednesday night itself, Tirath Singh was given its indications. Rawat will address a press conference tonight at 9.30 pm in Dehradun.

Before the assembly elections in Uttarakhand, the confidence of the BJP has started faltering. The decision to change two chief ministers in four months clearly shows how upset the party is about the next assembly elections. On March 10, the party had started implementing the election strategy by making Tirath Singh Rawat the Chief Minister, that Tirath Singh got into controversy with his statements. He didn’t have much to do in Kumbh and Corona, but he didn’t seem to be doing well either. After the election results of West Bengal, BJP assessed the work of all the governments, Uttarakhand was behind in that too.

According to sources, the by-election has been one of the reasons, but the central leadership had already decided that Tirath Singh Rawat would not be the face in the elections even after being the chief minister. Later it also came to the fore that more problems could increase with Tirath Singh Rawat, so it would be better to change the leadership and make an effective and flamboyant MLA the Chief Minister. According to sources, the names of Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat are being discussed in the names that have emerged for the future leadership in the BJP. Earlier, before leaving for Dehradun from Delhi, Tirath Singh Rawat said that he would work on the instructions of the top leadership.

Let us tell you that less than a year is left for the Uttarakhand assembly elections and it is a constitutional obligation for Rawat to be elected as a member of the assembly by September 10 to continue in his post. Rawat, the Lok Sabha MP from Pauri, took over as the chief minister on March 10 this year.

After meeting Nadda, Rawat told reporters that he discussed with the BJP President about the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. When he was asked a question regarding the by-election, he said that this matter is of the Election Commission and any decision regarding this has to be taken by him. He said that whatever strategy the central leadership of the party decides in this regard, it will be put forward on the ground.
