Years later, Germany is so troubled by the floods. While severe floods have claimed at least 103 lives in the western part of the country, more than a thousand people are said to be missing. Meanwhile, due to a crack in another dam, the group seems to be increasing.

In northern Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, water from overflowing rivers has entered towns and villages. Rhineland-Palatinate Premier Malu Dreyer told broadcaster ZDF: “The problems continue to grow.” She also added that more than 50 people have died in her state alone. The infrastructure has been completely destroyed and a lot of money will have to be spent on reconstruction.

Some 1,300 people are missing in the Ahrweiler district of neighboring Rhine-Westphalia. Mobile networks have come to a standstill in many flood-hit areas. Because of this people are not able to contact their loved ones. Several houses collapsed on Friday morning near Cologne in Erftstadt and rescuers struggled to save people. People had gone to their homes despite warnings.
