Like Nandigram, the atmosphere has heated up regarding the by-election in Bhawanipur assembly seat of West Bengal. On Monday, Dilip Ghosh had reached the assembly constituency for campaigning, during which violence broke out. After this, the BJP has launched a scathing attack on Mamta Banerjee and has demanded the Election Commission to cancel the by-election itself. BJP national vice president Dilip Ghosh said that elections cannot be held in such a violent atmosphere. Therefore it should be cancelled. Violence erupted in Bhawanipur on Monday afternoon to such an extent that Dilip Ghosh was confronted by TMC workers and shouted ‘Dilip Ghosh go back’.

The situation got so bad that a security guard of Dilip Ghosh pointed a pistol at the TMC workers. Today is the last day of campaigning for Bhawanipur by-election. After the complaint from the BJP, the Election Commission has now sought an answer from the TMC. For the elections to be held on September 30, the BJP has fielded Priyanka Tibriwal to take on Mamata Banerjee from this seat. It is necessary for Mamata Banerjee to win this by-election to continue as the Chief Minister.

Speaking to the media on Monday, BJP national vice president Dilip Ghosh alleged that he and other party workers were attacked by the TMC cadre during the campaign. Ghosh further said that he was distributing pamphlets in Bhawanipur when TMC workers started raising slogans against the BJP.

Policeman in civil dress was beaten up
He said ‘Then I went to a vaccination centre, they gheraoed me there. attacked me. Started beating our workers. Ghosh said the same thing happened with BJP MP Arjun Singh. Dilip Ghosh said that this is happening everyday. We had already contacted the police but they did not help us. Even a policeman in civil dress, who tried to save us, was beaten up.

Ghosh said it is not possible to have a fair election
Talking to the media, Ghosh said, “When I was campaigning in Bhawanipur today, TMC workers abused me. I was meeting some people at a vaccination center when some people surrounded me and started pushing. One of our workers was badly beaten up. Ghosh further said that I was attacked. My security tried to stop it and they pulled out their guns to scare off the attackers. Arjun Singh was also surrounded and forced to leave the area amid shouts of go back.
