Party leader Manish Tewari has also made a bet in the Punjab Congress between Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu. There has also been speculation about Manish Tewari’s tweet stating the share of Sikhs, Hindus and Dalits in Punjab’s population. According to political experts, Tiwari, who is called the ‘player’ of the captain, has tried to bring down Sidhu’s wicket on one side and has also indicated to the high command in his favor.
In the tweet, Tiwari has said that Sikhs constitute 57.75 percent of the population of Punjab, 38.49 percent Hindus and 31.94 percent of Dalits (Sikhs and Hindus). He further said, “Punjab is progressive and secular. It is important to balance social interest groups. Equality.”
Party insiders say that through the tweet, Tiwari has tried to convey to the Congress leadership that it is important for the party to strike a balance in Punjab, where elections are to be held in early 2022. Tiwari is a former Union Minister and MP from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is in favor of making Tiwari the Congress President in Punjab.
This tweet comes at a time when Navjot Singh Sidhu has once again met Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi. Amidst the rift in Punjab Congress, indications are being made to make Navjot Singh Sidhu the President of Punjab Congress. Sidhu held a meeting at Amarinder’s minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s house on Thursday. The captain also explained the strategy with his close ones. According to sources, he also spoke to Sonia Gandhi and expressed displeasure over Sidhu being made Congress President.
